Small facts. Big discoveries.
Llama · Lama glama
A llama has a long neck, upright ears, and a camel-like outline without a hump. Its body is adapted to the high elevations of the Andes.
Llamas browse shrubs and graze mountain vegetation, taking moisture from their food in dry conditions. They also use warning calls and body postures within the herd; some domestic llamas extend that protective behavior to sheep or goats kept in the same group.
- Each foot has two toes with soft pads.
- Llamas can live and work where the air contains less oxygen than it does at sea level.

Height, length, or weight?
Standing height runs from the ground to the top of the animal. Shoulder height stops at the top of the shoulders. Length runs along the body; it is not how tall an animal stands. Weight tells us how heavy it is.
