A donkey’s long ears make its outline stand out from a horse’s. Small, sturdy hooves give it secure footing on rough, rocky ground.
A donkey’s bray can carry over a long distance, helping animals communicate beyond immediate sight. Closer companions may touch muzzles or lean against one another, while broad grinding teeth let them process grasses and other plants that vary with the season.
- Many donkeys have a dark stripe along the back.
- A pale muzzle and lighter underside are common coat features.
